Montana DEQ Forest Fire Smoke Advisory
9/7/07
10:00 AM Friday
Widespread general smoke impacts are no longer occurring in the Big Sky state. Fire activity levels are much reduced with many fires receiving significant rain. A defining “season ending event” has not occurred and there is still a chance for some local impacts. Dispersion is often very poor in 9 and gets worse into October. Smoldering from the many acres that will remain hot until they are covered with snow may occasionally produce elevated smoke impacts under intense valley inversions. Residents noticing smoke from local fires should use the VISIBILITY GUIDELINES to determine smoke levels in their area and guide their activity decisions.
