Take-Back Programs
Some electronics manufacturers and retailers will accept back their products for recycling. Manufacturers often have information on their websites and describe their recycling activities, although some manufacturers do not advertise or promote their programs, yet they still offer the service. DEQ encourages businesses and citizens to inquire about recycling options when purchasing new equipment, and prior to disposal of unwanted equipment. More and more manufacturers are responding to the demand for recycling and this list is not complete or comprehensive. The best way to know if a manufacturer offers recycling is to contact them directly. Most charge a processing fee, and some restrict the brands that they will accept. Dell Inc. and Hewlett-Packard can provide a home pick-up service.
To learn about purchasing computers which are manufactured with reduced hazardous materials and increased ease of recycling, visit the EPEAT website.
