Texaco Sunburst Works Refinery

Background

The Texaco Sunburst Works Refinery (Facility), on the southern and western edges of Sunburst, is an inactive 380-acre oil refinery that Texaco operated from 1924 until 1961. The refinery primarily produced leaded gasoline of various grades. Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), metals (mostly lead), free product, and petroleum hydrocarbons are present in the soil and groundwater at the Facility. The Facility is currently in the remedial investigation phase. DEQ has not yet issued a Record of Decision for the Facility.

Documents relating to this facility will be available for download and/or viewing on this page as they are finalized. For more information please contact DEQ project officer, Chris Cote, at (406) 841-5078 or ccote2@mt.gov.
