The Boulder hot springs consist of about 26 hot springs covering 2 ½ acres adjacent to the resort facilities. Discharge from several of the springs are gathered and piped to the hotel for space heating, indoor baths, and an outdoor pool.

The surface temperature averages 160 F. Geothermic calculations suggest deep reservoir temperature ranges of 241-289 F (116-143 C). The total volume of springs complex is estimated to be 1,000 gpm in the spring. Structural studies by Montana State University (1977), indicate that the springs are controlled by north-south faults in the granite rock of the Boulder Batholith. The fissures are nearly sealed at the surface by deposition of silica and calcite. Two north-south trending faults occur south of the springs and could be structural controls to the deep waters.

Additional economic use may be applicable for the hot springs reservoirs, which appear to extend north of the surface springs. Potential use in the general area include; space heat for the Boulder schools, Jefferson County buildings, Boulder Hospital, a town heating district, and a greenhouse complex.
