The famous Broadwater Hot Springs and Spa used the spring waters from the early 1900s until it closed in 1941. Six wells have been drilled to develop the springs, with a flow of 500-2,000 gpm. The springs flow is 207 gpm.
The springs arise from a granitic rocks, satellite bodies to the main Boulder batholith. The surface temperature is 151 F. The geothermometry indicates a possible temperature range of 204-277 F (96-136 C).
Direct-use applications are rated high for this site because of the location near the capitol city of Montana. The hot water is currently used for an outdoor swimming pool, indoor spas, and space heating. Historically the water provided heat for a commercial greenhouse.
