A wide thermal area (three to four miles) with elevated surface-soil temperatures surrounds the springs and bank well. A shallow well supplied about 80 percent of the heating requirements of the bank until the late 1990s. Warm water from the bank well flowed to a nearby motel which also used the water for space heating and a swimming pool.

Geothermometers indicate a potential deep reservoir temperature of 125 C. The USGS and MSU conducted several studies in the 1980s but could not locate a hotter source area.

THE SPA HOT SPRINGS provides clean, comfortable rooms with a small-town Montana atmosphere. We have two wonderful natural hot mineral pools which are drained, cleaned, and refilled every night, with no chemicals added. Beautiful large murals overlook our outside pool and provide a perfect atmosphere for relaxing and enjoying the water. Street Address: 202 West Main, White Sulphur Springs, MT 59645
