Department Administrative Rule Updates
The Department of Environmental Quality has amended ARM 17.56.506, 17,56.507, 17.56.607 and 17.56.608. The amendments pertain to the May 2009 EPA Regional Screening Level (RSL) Table and the September 2009 Montana Tier 1 Risk-based Corrective Action guidance for Petroleum Releases )RBCA). Specific changes to the rules can be viewed at http://deq.mt.gov/dir/legal/notices/17-300pro.pdf.
New Regional Screen Levels
The EPA Region 9 Regional Screening Levels are the screening levels that are applicable for the State of Montana. The Region 9 levels are the standard levels for all EPA regions.
The Region 9 Regional Screening levels have been harmonized with similar risk-based screening levels used by Regions 3 and 6 into a single table: "RegionalScreening Levels (RSL) for Chemical Contaminants at Superfund Sites." These updated screening levels, along with a detailed user's guide and supplementary tables, can be accessed directly on-line or downloaded. The link below contains a Screening Level Calculator to assist in calculating site-specific screening levels.
