Montana Appliance Rebate Program Guide for Utilities & Electric Co-ops

Thank you for your interest in the Montana Appliance Rebate Program. On these pages you will find information about the program and links specific to Montana utilities and electric cooperatives.

The official rebate website will be available beginning on May 24.

A toll-free telephone number will also access the program: 877-434-4229.  During the interim, this number offers pre-recorded program rules and information for consumers.

Demand side managers and co-op personnel can contact the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) at 841-5275 for assistance and clarification of details. The DEQ website is http://deq.mt.gov/Recovery/energy/applianceRebate.mcpx and for the next couple of weeks will offer information and updates for consumers, retailers and other interested parties.

Key Rules

Please remember these key rules of the program and pass them along to your customers:

  • A maximum of two appliance categories may be claimed per household — a refrigerator and a dishwasher, for example, but not two refrigerators or two dishwashers. Any combination of categories is eligible, but the maximum is two rebates per household.
  • The receipt must show that the product is ENERGY STAR®-certified and that the purchase date was either on — or after — the program launch date of May 24, 2010.
  • The consumer has 30 days after the date of purchase to complete a rebate application.
  • A hard copy of the application must be completed and signed by the consumer and mailed into the processing center accompanied by a legible copy of the sales receipt.

Consumers applying for an appliance rebate must agree that the replaced unit will be recycled and identify how that appliance will be recycled. If the retailer does not provide a recycling and appliance removal service, the consumer must find a local recycling facility, landfill or transfer station that will accept the old appliance. A list of state recyclers is available in the sidebar.

Your Assistance is Important

Montana utilities and cooperatives are vital to the success of this program. Your role is to accurately communicate the details of the program to consumers and to assist them in selecting eligible appliances. Please take the time to familiarize yourself and your employees with the program. Please help consumers to understand the eligible products and the rebate application process.

ENERGY STAR® -qualified appliance categories and rebate amounts are:

Clothes Washers - $100 rebate

Dishwashers - $50 rebate

Freezers - $70 rebate

Refrigerators - $100 rebate (Compact refrigerators less than 7.75 cubic feet are not eligible for a rebate)
